| Matty Breyer returns to the Irish for the 2003 season after playing in California for the past two years(OK it was softball)... "Chew" began his Irish career in 1992 as a member of the "big 3"(Mark Foley and Jay Kreger) which many people have considered to be one of Green Isle's recruiting classes... Matt, who used to have an endorsement deal with Skoal, hasn't had a dip since he left Minnesota in the fall of 2000... Brother of Troy and son to Dave, Matt is the third member of the Breyer family to play with the Irish... Matt's baseball career got off to a delayed start due to the fact that he fancied himself as a golfer during high school. Matty played one year of high school baseball helping to lead Sibley East to a state tournament berth. After graduation Matt continued playing baseball at South Dakota State University... Matt is Green Isle's all-time leader for home runs in a season clubbing 19 in 1999... Matt went 9-0 in 1998... threw a career high 124 2/3 innings in 1999 while compiling a 13-3 record... Matty earned State All-Tournament honors in 1999 and 2003... Matt brings a versatility to the Irish as he excels on the mound, in the infield, and also the outfield. |
